The Damned started off as a straight-ahead punk band and then morphed into having longer, multi-part songs and then into goth-pop and then basically into Dave Vanian's pop/rock project. They've produced some interesting things in a long career, but nothing quite as essential as the early stuff.
The Damned are owed a great deal of backdated kudos. EASILY the UK lazy journalistic equivalent of The Ramones and far more exotic.
ReplyDeleteNOT that there's anything wrong with The Ramones of course, but The Damned are a footnote that should have been a headline.
Cheers for this - it'll fill some gaps as I've just lost a horrifying amount of music due to an unbacked up portable hard drive.
Thank you. I'm only nicking Light At The End Of The Tunnel as I have it on vinyl and want it "portable" without purchasing a 3rd time. The other ones I either have already or plan on purchasing.
