Nick Cave, bard of Australia, another figure no one guessed at the start would become such a respectable elder statesman of moody music.

RIP Anita Lane

 

 

Anita Lane was around the early Bad Seeds, co-writing some songs and collaborating with some of that crowd.  A footnote in the grand scheme?  Maybe but there was always something alluring about her solo work, which sounds like a more avant garde Mazzy Star.

Hugo Race + True Spirit/Fatalists

Hugo Race was in Nick Cave's Bad Seeds for 1/2 a minute in the early years. As he continued on a solo career, he initially mined the same territory as early Bad Seeds' records. His most recent stuff is actually how I envisioned Nick Cave would sound at this point in his career and, personally, I find Hugo Race's music much more satisfying.
